Grand Floridian Theme Park View Review: Is a $1,515 Room Worth It?

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
At a glance
  • The $1,515 theme park view isn't worth it for fireworks: they look tiny and you can't hear the music
  • Watch the fireworks from the boat dock in front of Narcoossee's instead, a closer, well-known spot
  • Rooms are lovely, and a standard room is enough if you mainly want the design and Magic Kingdom access

In this post I’m sharing my stay at Walt Disney World’s flagship Deluxe resort, the Grand Floridian.

Grand Floridian Resort exterior

The Grand Floridian is a Deluxe resort, the highest tier of Disney resorts, and it’s decorated throughout in an elegant, old-fashioned style with a Mary Poppins theme.

It’s also the closest hotel to Magic Kingdom, so a big perk of the theme park view rooms is that you can watch the fireworks from your room. Besides the shuttle bus, you can get around by monorail and boat, so access is excellent.

But… as great as it is, it’s also brutally expensive. My theme park view room cost $1,515 for one night (about 2.2 million KRW). It was so pricey that the four of us stayed just one night.

🕒 Check-In & Check-Out

  • Check-in: 4 p.m. / Check-out: 11 a.m.

Check-in is a little later than at Disney resorts in other tiers. I spent the day at a water park and checked in right at 4. As at other Disney resorts, you can check out easily in the Disney app without stopping at the front desk.

🏨 Room Location & Getting Around

Grand Floridian villa buildings

The Grand Floridian is made up of several separate buildings. I was assigned to a building toward the back, a bit of a walk from the main lobby. You walk between buildings along outdoor paths, so it can be a little inconvenient on rainy or hot days.

🛏 Room & Interior

True to the Mary Poppins theme, the interior is classic and cute, centered on light blue and light pink. With 2 beds plus a sofa bed, it works well for families.

Everything from the lighting to the wallpaper follows the Poppins theme, so there are lots of cute details.

Even the lights are shaped like larks — cute, right?!

The bathroom has the shower and toilet together, and a separate double vanity with two sinks, which made getting ready easy.

✨ The Balcony

As you’d expect from a Deluxe resort, there’s a private balcony. It was lovely to relax there, looking out at the water and the ducks floating by.

You can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from here, which is what a lot of people look forward to…

🎆 Theme Park View & Fireworks: My Honest Review

At night we watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the balcony. But honestly, it wasn’t as amazing as I’d hoped:

  • It didn’t have the grandeur you feel inside the park
  • You can’t hear the music
  • The fireworks looked tiny and far away, so it wasn’t moving at all

Cinderella Castle, way, way off in the distance

So I don’t recommend choosing a theme park view room just for the fireworks! That said, from a distance you can see how the fireworks are launched from several points behind and in front of the castle, so it was interesting to observe how the whole show is put together.

💡 Tip! If you want to watch the fireworks, there’s no need to pay for an expensive theme park view room. I recommend watching from the boat dock in front of Narcoossee’s restaurant instead. You can see them closer up, and I’ve heard it’s a well-known spot among locals too.

🚤 Transportation (Boat / Monorail / Bus)

One of the Grand Floridian’s biggest advantages is its variety of transportation options.

✔ Boat

Boat at the Grand Floridian dock

Boat crossing the lake to Magic Kingdom

  • Board at the dock in front of Narcoossee’s
  • Goes directly to Magic Kingdom
  • Gliding across the lake is a different kind of experience, and I really enjoyed taking the boat

✔ Monorail

  • The platform is one floor up from the resort lobby
  • Bag check before boarding
  • Goes to Magic Kingdom & EPCOT
  • The route slowly circles the lake, so it’s perfect for enjoying the scenery

💡 Tip!

The monorail is much faster, while the boat has a lovely atmosphere and breeze that make it feel like a real vacation. Each has a completely different charm, so I recommend trying both — one on your way into the park and the other on your way out.

🛍️ Merchandise Shops

The Grand Floridian has 3 shops in total.

  1. Lobby side: accessories and clothing
  2. Opposite side: a small pin shop
  3. Upstairs: a large Disney merchandise shop

  • This is where Grand Floridian–exclusive merchandise is sold (mugs, ornaments, etc.)

If you’re staying here, I recommend stopping by to browse, even for a few minutes.

🍴 Breakfast at Grand Floridian Cafe

We had breakfast at Grand Floridian Cafe. We went without a reservation, waited about 10 minutes, and were seated. It has a bright, charming, European-style brunch restaurant feel.

✔ What We Ordered & Price

(Total $165.28 including an 18% tip ≈ about 240,000 KRW)

Breakfast dishes at Grand Floridian Cafe

  • Fresh Fruit Bowl
  • Yogurt Parfait
  • Floridian-style Eggs Benedict
  • Buttermilk-fried Chicken and Waffle
  • Seasonal Buttermilk Pancakes
  • PRG French Toast
  • 3 orange juices
  • 1 cappuccino

Overall the food wasn’t bad, but the pancakes were a huge portion and fairly ordinary in taste, which was a bit disappointing. On the other hand, everyone in my family loved the orange juice. It’s a little expensive, so I’d only recommend it if you want to experience a European-style restaurant.

📝 Overall Verdict & Recommendations

  • Room condition: very satisfied!
  • Theme park view: not recommended, as it falls short for the price
  • If you’re drawn to the Grand Floridian’s elegant, classic design and easy access to Magic Kingdom, you’ll be perfectly happy with a standard room.

💡 Want to see the fireworks? → Instead of a theme park view room → Watch from the dock in front of Narcoossee’s (where you catch the boat) — a great spot!
